Bringing Wonderful Town to LA Opera

wonderful-townLeonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town is a musical comedy about two sisters who move from their Ohio hometown to bohemian Greenwich Village to fulfill their dreams. But can a musical from the 1950’s about the 1930’s still captivate an audience in 2016? Director of the LA Opera production, David Lee, says “absolutely”. Lee has a long list of TV credits (he was a writer on Cheers and co-created Frasier), but he says theater was his first love and he’s happy to be a part of this early celebration of Bernstein’s 100th  birthday with LA Opera. He spoke with KUSC Contributor Sheila Tepper about the magic of Wonderful Town and the cast who will be bringing it to life in LA.

Wonderful Town has three performances only at LA Opera (Dec 2, 3 and 4). Click here for tickets.
