This week's Classical Californian, Radu Paponiu, will soon be presenting his first concert as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. He'll trace his interest in music from his early days as a violinist in Romania, to coming to the US to take part in Itzhak Perlman's summer program, and turning to conducting as a masters student at the New England Conservatory of Music. There are works by Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, and Caroline Shaw.
Frederic Chopin: Waltzes - D-flat Major (Op. 64 No. 1, "Minute"), A-flat Major (Op. Post. 69 No. 1, "Farewell"), Grand Valse Brillante (in E-flat Major, Op. 18) - Dinu Lipatti, piano
Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet #15 op. 132, mvt. 3 "Heiliger Dankgesang" - Juilliard String Quartet
Claude Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun - New York Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein
Caroline Shaw: Entr'acte - Attacca Quartet
